As we follow the teachings of Paul in a letter to the Church at Corinth, our work comes from our faith, our efforts come from love, and our perseverance comes from hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know that it is God who has comforted us in all of our troubles so that we, in turn, may comfort others who are in need. The needs of our community in the Harlem/Washington Heights area are large and challenging in scope.
Our mission lies in confronting the climate of a troubled world and society and a community struggling with social, environmental, health, and economic issues. Many families in our diverse area of service are recent immigrants struggling to adjust to cultural changes. Social injustice is an issue that affects us all, and it is our moral responsibility to our neighbors as a church community to face it head-on.
As a community partner and spiritual beacon, North Presbyterian Church NYC is willing to commit time and resources to meet these challenges and be a supportive and witnessing congregation, which takes seriously the needs of individuals and families for nurturing and caring. Therefore we will “ not neglect to do good and to share what we have.” (Hebrews 13:16); nor will we “become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
